5 Fandom Friday: Characters I Would Name My Pets After

The original topic was characters I would name my children after, but I already have names that I like and can't bring myself to add any more. Plus, it's more likely that I would name animals after characters anyway. I am a dog person, so most of these names would be for dogs. But I also really like fish, I guess cause they are so calming to watch and what not. So either fish or dogs, it doesn't really matter.

Send Me Up!

I love heights! I've always loved heights. I am basically an adrenaline junkie. I've been bungee jumping and I've done the nation's largest human sling shot. I want to sky diving soon, but I have a feeling that I will enjoy the bungee jump better.

You know that feeling you get while on a roller coaster, and it's been clicking it's way all up to the top of the drop. Then it slowing begins to even out when all of a sudden it turns and you drop and there's that awesome feeling in the pit of your stomach!? I. LOVE. THAT. FEELING.

Inspirations from William Carlos Williams and Langston Hughes

I'm in this amazing english class with an awesome professor. American Literature after 1900. At first I thought it would be just another english class with a lot of reading and then analyzing the texts, and we do that, but our professor is so great that it just feels like discussions. He doesn't have to pull teeth to get us to talk. He also is very good at making you feel like your comments and suggestions mean something. He never puts down anything or make anyone feel like they are wrong. Which makes the class feel like a safe environment, at least to me.

Anyway, this class has actually made me like writing poetry and I thought I would just share a little bit with you. The first two are modeled after Williams' "This Is Just To Say" poem about eating the plums. And the others start with one line from poems by Hughes.

This Is Just To Say
this is just to say
I'm sorry about your fish
I took him for a walk
but it didn't go so well.

I'm so sorry
I'll get you another beta.

This Is Just To Say
this is just to say
I'm sorry I'm not your business major
that my passion doesn't
offer security or money.

But it's my life,
and I'm happy doing what I love.

"In the Lonely Night…"
In the lonely night
I walk past the clubs.
In the lonely night
I hear the music pour out.
In the lonely night
I see all the lit windows.
In the lonely night
I hear all of the chatter and laughter.
In the lonely night
I see the shadows of friends enjoying each other's company.

As I turn to look back on the empty street
I realize the night in not all that lonely.

"I, Too, Sing America…"
though my voice is soft and quiet.
I still have a song in my heart.
Some days, I hum. Others, not a sound.
I'm still writing my song, America.
But one day, you will sing along.

"I am your daughter…"
I am your daughter. Please do not forget me.
Do not loose me in your "no child left behind" systems.
Do not stick me in a classroom, overflowing with unwanted students.
Please stay with me until the end.
Do not pass me along.
Teach me.
Teach me to learn.
Let me create and discover. Grow and dream.
The desire to learn is there. Just give me time.

We are your children. Please don't forget us.

So those are just a few that I have jotted down during my free time or while in class. Enjoy and hopefully you are inspired by great authors and poets to write as well.

5 Fandom Friday: Things I've Bought But Haven't Read/Watched/Played Yet

Ahh, this topic is so good. Cause I always find myself buying a lot of books, but never read them. Or more importantly, finishing them. I own a lot of books that are book marked and dog eared around the third chapter. And I never get around to finishing them. I know, its sad.
So here is my sad list of barely started books and one CD, just for fun!

Summer Time Songs

I am so sick of the Texas weather. It needs to pick a side, warm or cold. It shouldn't be 80 degrees one day and 34 degrees the next. It's making my allergies go crazy. So in order to prepare and hopefully bring in the permanent warm weather, I've been listening to a playlist that includes songs that remind me of the summer days. Here are some of my favorite!

Also pretty much Grouplove's entire album "Spreading Rumors". I bought it at the beginning of the summer and listened to it the entire time, especially while at the beach! Such an awesome summer vibe. Preview it here!

The Liebster Award

I just found out I was nominated for the The Liebster Award, which is an award given from one blogger to another. My nomination came from a fellow blogger, Ali at the [unrefined] sweet life. I am so honored to have even been considered as a nomination. So a BIG THANK YOU to Ali (and James)!!

Here are the rules:

So here are my eleven fun facts:
1. I have an extremely squishy forehead. Like I cannot make myself have wrinkles by raising my eyebrows. It's really squishy and one of my friends has asked me to will my forehead to him.
2. I cannot make my front teeth touch. Only my molars in the back touch. You can't really tell unless I show you. And yes, eating is a little more difficult, but I manage.
3. I flew out to Florida for less than 24 hours to audition to be a Disney Princess! Read about that here.
4. I fell out of a 15 foot tree when I was little, but by some miracle, my mom just happened to be there and caught me. We still aren't sure how that happened. So a big shout out to the Man Upstairs for watching over me!
5. I threw my camera away, (that had about 400 pictures), in a trash can in Times Square only to remember that an hour late. But, I managed to find the exact trash can, and  dug it out and saved all my pictures. And I didn't even get dirty!
6. I've performed at Bass Concert Hall in Austin, TX in front of thousands of people.
7. I usually don't like to be out too late, I'd rather go to bed. Because that's how much of a wild child I am.
8. I am a PK (Preacher's Kid).
9. In the 8th grade, I thought I was super cool and "goth" because I owned a pair of zebra skinny jeans. And I shopped at Hot Topic. What was I thinking?!?
10. I love steak and mashed potatoes.
11. I try my best everyday to live for and like Jesus, and although I fail, it's worth the journey knowing what's waiting for me at the end.

And here are the eleven questions that Ali asked:

1.  Why did you start blogging?
I've always enjoyed writing, and I've always wanted some feedback. So I figured the best way was via the internet. Once I started blogging, I was addicted. And I began writing how to's and DIY's. I enjoy all types of posts.

2.  Since beginning your blog, what has been your biggest success?
I'm not sure this is a "success" but my good friend and fellow blogger, Brittney at The Military Wife Life, and I have been in constant contact since we both began blogging. Giving each other tips, and her helping me out- like all the time- and writing for each other. It's been great!

3.  Congratulations! You’ve won $5,000 on a scratch off ticket. How will you spend your winnings?
To be honest, I thought that was a real thing. Haha, but I would either pay off some of my student loans, or use it all on a trip to NYC to see as many Broadway shows and eat at all the nice restaurants possible.

4.  What is your favorite book? Why?
The Harry Potter series, because those were the books that got me to read. My favorite is between The Sorcerer's Stone or The Chamber of Secrets.

5.  Describe your style. What are 5 pieces that you think everyone should have in their closet?
My style changes a lot. Right now, I'm into big cardigans and sweaters. I also have this pair of black high waisted skinny jeans that I would wear every day, (and I almost do), if I could.

6. What is your guilty pleasure movie and snack?
Legally Blonde. And my snack is a family size pack of the Reese's Minis.

7.  If you were making the perfect ice cream sundae, what would it consist of?
I'm not a huge fan of ice cream sundaes. I don't like nuts or a lot of syrup. So I'll list some of my favorite flavors; Cookies-N-Cream, Dutch Chocolate, Krazy Cookie Dough, Peppermint, and Mint Chocolate Chip.

8.  In a box of 96 crayons, what color would you be? What is the name of the color? (i.e. Macaroni & Cheese Orange)
I love the blue Cerulean.  I find myself using it all the time, and I consider blue my color.

9.  Name three things that help get you through the day.
My Pandora Broadway Station
Blueberry Muffins
Sweet Tea

10. What is your signature dish to bring to a get-together/party?
Uh, I don't cook so I'll bring the cheese dip! Haha

11.  Name one milestone (goal) for your blog that you’d like to reach in 2015.
To get an average of 50 views a day.

So here are my eleven nominees:
Jessica at The Pyreflies
Sierra at Bookyum
Rebecca at A Book Long Enough
Sead No One Ever
Sarah Glam Granola Geek
Melissa at The Crafty Frugaler
Jessica at 1-2-3 Neat & Tidy
Kim at Kim Speaks Up!
Jessica at The Sweetest Thing.
Nora at The Petite Mrs.

And here are their eleven questions:
1. If you could be a type of animal, what would you choose?
2. Where is you're favorite place to read?
3. What is your guilty pleasure movie or TV show.
4. What is the first book you remember you couldn't put down.
5. What is your favorite song at the moment?
6. What is your sleeping position?
7. When did you last step outside? Where were you and what did you see?
8. Please explain the name of your blog.
9. Pick one. Fly or breath under water. Why?
10. What is the first thing you think about when you wake up?
11. What do you want to accomplish with your blog?

Working with Actors: A Little Update On This Semester

As I exctitedly mentioned before, I am now a Theatre Major at Abilene Christian University. Currently, I am working on ACU's production of The Marvelous Wonderettes. It's a really fun show about four girls who are singing at their 1958 Super Senior Prom! A jukebox musical that continuously has me laughing and singing along every night. I worked on set during the day, and now that the show has opened, I am a spotlight operator. Even though I really love being backstage with the actors, I really love being up in the catwalk spotting. I can watch the show every night! And since I am up high with the sound system, I really can sing along as loud as I want and no one can hear me. Except maybe a fellow spot op. But we are all singing along, so it's all good.

DIY Magazine Craft

I work in the library on campus- it’s glamorous, I know- in the acquisitions and cataloging department. So basically we order new books and when they come in, we catalog them and put them into the system. We also work with damaged books where we either send them off to be fixed or we discard them. We also work with periodicals, which can be a fancy name for magazines. Some periodicals are really nice (National Geographic) and after their cycle is done on the current periodical shelf, we collect a year’s worth of issues and send them off to be bound and then put them on the regular shelves. But others, like People, are published every week and aren’t necessarily worth the money to bound, so we discard them. Or you know, recycle them.
